Having spent my professional life as an educator in a variety of settings, I can truly say that my experiences have run the gamut from formative to transformative, from smooth sailing to downright hard. Yet in every school experience, I have thrived. I certainly did not know that during the tough times when I thought I wouldn’t survive, that I was actually learning how to thrive. I believe that it is my calling to offer students the opportunity to thrive in school and beyond. Just “making it through” school should never be enough. Students deserve welcoming school communities and authentic teachers and school leaders who allow space for them to thrive academically and socio-emotionally.

My mission as an educator is to T.H.R.I.V.E. (Teach from the Heart, Resiliency, Integrity, Value, Equity). I seek to inspire educators to Teach from the Heart, model Resiliency, lead with Integrity, Value relationships, and ensure Equity for students, families, and educators. Therefore, the ideal educational institution where I serve, build, lead, and love is one where students and staff of all backgrounds and abilities are able to co-create the conditions for all to T.H.R.I.V.E. I believe that students deserve to coexist in a school environment that honors who they are and all that they bring to that space. I strive to inspire adults to create an atmosphere in which each individual feels welcomed, included, and a sense of belonging. Everyone in that environment must then be committed to ensuring that anyone who enters that space feels the same.

If I don’t tell my story, then who will?
